Simone Biles

 Simone Arianne Biles (/sI’moUn ‘baI@lz14 March 1997, [4]) is an American gymnast who is artistic. Biles tied Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals she won in American gymnastics, and is currently the ninth highest. Biles is considered by many to be the best gymnast of all time, having won 25 World Championship medals. Joe Biden awarded Biles the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022.

Biles received gold medals at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympics. Biles also took home bronze medals in balance beam floor, all-around, and vault. However, Biles pulled out of the majority of the games due to her difficulties with "the twisties" that is an intermittent loss of air awareness of balance. Biles was awarded an Olympic silver medal for the US team, as well as bronze in the balance beam. The judges praised the partial withdrawal she made, her determination and commitment to safety, mental and physical health. Biles is the gymnast who has been awarded the most World medals (25) and also the most World gold medals (19). Biles has now passed Vitaly Scherbo's record of 23 World medals. Biles won her 24thand 25th places in gold in the 2019 Stuttgart competition in Stuttgart. Biles holds the record for having the highest number of all-around World titles (5). She's the sixth female to receive an individual all-around title during the Olympics and World Championships. Biles is the tenth and first American female gymnast to earn the World medal in every event. This feat was accomplished during the 2018 World Championships. Biles was the third of from four siblings. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 14th 1997. The four children were all put in foster care.

When Shanon's grandchildren were being cared for in foster homes, Ron Biles (Biles' maternal grandfather) and Nellie Cayetano Biles (his second wife) started to care for Shanon in Spring, Texas. They took in Simone and Adria Biles, her younger sister, in 2003. Ron's sister Shanon's aunt Harriet adopted the two oldest kids. Biles, through her adoptive mother, has Belizean citizenship and calls Belize as her second home. Biles as well as her family members are Catholic.
